Courtney Kathleen Jones Aman passed away at home, on March 24, 2016 after decades of heart and lung disease. She leaves behind more than three thousand art students she taught from 1973 to 2008. Children in New Hanover, Johnson, Wake and Orange Counties loved being in her classes where they learned multiple creative techniques: drawing, painting, collage, clay, metal crafts and compositional crafts.Courtney was an advocate for animal welfare and safety. She also supported women’s efforts to be independent in third world countries. Courtney is survived by her sisters Julianne (Stan), Lenore, Erika (William) and her brother Dylan. Her family would like to thank Lower Cape Fear Hospice for making Courtney’s remaining days peaceful, especially Felecia. After retiring from teaching in Orange County, she later returned to the Wilmington area where she had attended New Hanover High School and taught art her first year.Courtney chose not to have a memorial service, to celebrate her life, – please donate art materials to your local elementary school. Many art teachers have a tiny budget for materials and spend their own money to provide for student activities. Or, support an animal welfare group or shelter.
