The Garner Optimist Club will hold its 16th annual golf tournament on Sunday, Oct. 5 at Reedy Creek Golf Course. The four-person super ball event beigns with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. The fee is $65 per player or $260 per team. Proceeds benefit the St. Baldrick’s Childood Cancer Foundation. Lunch and dinner will be served. The field is limited to 32 teams. Archway Foundation golf tournament

5K Race at Flowers Plantation

The Pineville Race Series Trifecta series of three 5K races will begin on Aug. 30 with the Flowers Plantation Labor Day 5K race to benefit the Corinth Holders High School cross country team. The fee is $15 for early registration and $20 after Aug. 20. There will be a one-mile fun run for kids at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K race starts at 8 a.m. T-shirts will be available for all participants and prizes will be presented to the top three male and female finishers. Register at sports.bluesombrero.com. The other 5K series races are planned for the fall (the annual Turkey Trot) and December (the Flowers Festive 5K).

NFL Punt, Pass and Kick at Flowers Plantation

The Club at Flowers Plantation is a host for an area NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition at 10 a.m. on Sept. 20. There is no charge to participate but registration is required. Register online at www.nflppk.com/competitioins/register/index/18054.

Johnston Horse Show Series for 2014

The Johnston County Horse Show Series dates for 2014 are set. These shows are open to all riding disciplines and equine breeds. Dates for 2014 are Sept. 20, Oct. 25 and Nov. 22. NetWorks basketball skills camp
