The second annual Grinch Stink Stank Stunk 5K Toy Run will be held on Dec. 7 in Smithfield. All participants are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy or gift card. All donations will go to Harbor and the Johnston County DSS Angel Tree Project. Prizes will be awarded to runners who dress as a Whoville character. Register at www.smithfield-nc.com or in person at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center. Race packets can be picked up from noon until 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, and toy donations can be dropped off then. The 5K run begins at 10 a.m. and a jog/walk event will begin at 10:05 a.m.

Baseball team holding annual Toys for Tots fundraiser

The South Johnston High baseball team is selling $1 raffle tickets for a $100 Walmart gift card through its ninth annual Toys for Tots toy drive. Tickets are available from South baseball players and coaches through Dec. 12. All proceeds go to purchase toys that will be donated to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots program. Over the past eight years more than $25,000 has been raised and used to buy toys for needy children. For more info, contact South Johnston baseball coach Keith Durham at 919-894-3146.
