South Johnston hands out its fall sports awards

South Johnston High School handed out its fall sports team awards recently. The Trojans honored 23 individuals for their efforts.
Football most valuable player awards went to Clarence Crawford (offensive), D’Angelo Surles (defensive), Thomas Lee (offensive line) and Daniel Morales (defensive line). Gerod Raynor received the coach’s award and the most improved player award went to Deandre McNeil.
Alexis Massengill was the volleyball team MVP, while Chyann Ketchum picked up the coach’s award. Kayla Allen was named the most improved volleyball player.
Jacob Gonzalez, who finished in the top 10 at the state 3A championships, was the boys cross country MVP. Evan Raynor was named the most improved runner and Cody Morrison picked up the coach’s award.
Dava McLamb received the Trojan Harrier award for her performance for the girls cross country team, while Caroline Dorman was named the team MVP.
Jose Correa and Jorge Barahona earned MVP honors in boys soccer. Jon Barbour received the coach’s award.
A pair of Hannahs earned girls tennis honors with Hannah Johnson picking up the most improved award and Hannah Thornton receiving the coach’s award. The tennis team MVP was Elizabeth Strickland.
The girls golf team awards went to Sydney Wheeless (MVP), Rachael Wheeler (coach’s award) and Emily Kirsch (most improved).
