Mears is entering her fourth season as a member of the Corinth Holders High softball squad, splitting her time between left field and the pitching pound. She projects as a pitcher at Louisburg.

Why Louisburg? “It’s a small school and I liked the girls there. I liked the practice schedule a lot and was impressed by the way the girls and the coaches interact.”

Also Considered: St. Andrews, Mount Olive

Major: Elementary Education or Stenography

Notable: Kayla is entering her fourth season as a member of the Corinth Holders High softball squad, splitting her time between left field and the pitching pound. She projects as a pitcher at Louisburg. On the mound, she calls her curveball and her screwball her favorite pitches. The curve ranks a little higher though. “I like the unpredictability of it,” she said. “Some days it drops, sometimes it’s got a big break. Just depends on the day.” Kayla would like to improve her speed as she heads to Louisburg College: both her speed on the base paths and in the field and the speed of her pitches. One of her most memorable games at Corinth Holders was the Pirates 13-inning victory on the road over Roanoke Rapids.

Corinth Holders coach Jessica Potter: “Kayla has given us great depth as a pitcher and an outfielder. She’s a solid batter and always looking to improve.”
