Kristina Neal to play softball at Chowan University

Kristina Neal, a Corinth Holders High School student, will continue her softball career at Chowan University.

Parents: Elvin and Tara Neal

High School: Corinth Holders

Travel Team: N.C. Challengers, Screamers

Why Chowan? “The time I spent with the team I could see how the team interacted and they were a lot closer than other teams I was around.”

Also Considered? Meredith, Winston-Salem State

Major: Pre-Physical Therapy

Notable: Kristina has been a four-year varsity player at Corinth Holders in basketball and softball. Her senior season took an unwanted turn when she suffered a major knee injury in September, tearing her ACL. It cost her her senior season in basketball but she hopes there’s a chance she could be back before the end of the softball season. It was her first ever injury. What she misses most about being part of a team might surprise some people. “I took fore granted being able to practice,” she said. “It’s hard to be around practice, much less a game, because of how much I want to be out there.” … The injury did increase her interest in the field of physical therapy, which she plans to pursue in college. “Being a patient just made we want to do it more,” she said. … She played mostly second base in high school but will likely play third baseman for Chowan. ... Kristina will cherish the relationships she’s developed with members of the basketball and softball teams from her days at Corinth Holders. “The family feeling you get can’t be matched,” she said. “I’ve made two teams full of friends over the years.”

Corinth Holders coach Jessica Potter: “Kristina has provided us with a lot of depth as a solid infielder and batter. She’s very coachable and always willing to learn and adjust.”
