Parents: Alvin and Pam Peedin
High School: Princeton
Height, Weight: 6-foot-3, 270 pounds
Why UNCP? “I went to football camp down there last summer and really enjoyed it. I feel like they’re starting something there. The way they did things reminded me of Coach (Derrick) Minor and Princeton football.”
Also Considered: N.C. Wesleyan, Guilford, Randolph-Macon
Major: Athletic Training
Notable: Matt was a standout offensive tackle and defensive lineman for Princeton, playing four years of varsity ball. … He’s been a big part of breaking open the running holes for standout back Johnny Frasier the past two seasons. “It always felt like when he scored, we scored,” Matt said. “If you block for him he’ll get down the field and Johnny is always one to give the offensive line a lot of credit.” … Matt was impressed by what he saw at UNC Pembroke practices, particularly the use of language. “They’ve got a strict no cussing rule and that’s something that hits big for me,” he said. … He wants to improve his pass blocking at the next level.
Princeton coach Derrick Minor: “Matt was the heart and soul of our team. It’s going to be hard to replace not just his ability on the field but his leadership off of the field. … He’s still growing and has been through a lot of changes in the past two years to get to play at the next level.”
