Mother: April Hill;

Grandmother : Mildred Hill

Height, Weight: 6-foot-4, 240 pounds

High School: Smithfield-Selma

Also Considered: Wingate, UNC Pembroke, North Carolina

Why A&T? “I like the staff and the people I met on my visit. The way they treated me, it was like I was already a part of their team. And I really liked the coaching staff.”

Major: Criminal Justice

Notable: Leroy enters college with a big advantage over most prospects: he doesn’t have to add much size to be ready to play, already at 240 pounds. He played defensive end as a junior for SSS, then moved to middle linebacker as a senior but an injury took away part of his season. He also played tight end on offense for the Spartans. … He’s quick to give credit for his college football opportunity to SSS head coach David Lawhon. “Coach Lawhon really developed me as a player and as a student,” William said. He showed me I could be a better person and helped me improve my life on and off of the field.” … Leroy wants to improve his speed, both laterally and straight line, to be ready to play middle linebacker for the Aggies. … He wants to be a state trooper after his football and college days are over.

Smithfield-Selma coach David Lawhon: “Nobody here has worked harder over the past 10 months than Leroy. His strength and speed the last six months have improved tremendously. He’s a very intense player and knows the game. He has a (body) frame that can hold another 40 pounds if they want to move him to another position.”
