Parents: Winston and Sandra Samuels
High School: Smithfield-Selma
Height, Weight: 6-feet, 160 pounds
Why Louisburg? “I liked the coaching staff and the school. It was just a good fit for me as a football player and a student.”
Major: Criminal Justice
Notable: Chris was a three-year starter at quarterback at Smithfield-Selma and has played the position since he was an 8-year-old. “It just kind of fit me,” he said of the position. “I’ve always loved being a leader of my team.” … He had a big role in the Spartans’ season-ending win over South Johnston last fall, throwing a touchdown pass to Raequan Smith with less than two minutes to play, helping end a 40-game losing streak. “Words still can’t describe it,” he said of the feeling he had after the game. “The play went pretty much like it was drawn up. The comeback (from a 21-0 deficit for a 22-21 win) was just what we said we’d do as a team at halftime.” … He wants to improve his accuracy throwing the ball heading to the college level.
Smithfield-Selma coach David Lawhon: “There’s a lot of upside for Chris as a quarterback. He’s got good quickness for a quarterback and very good arm strength. He has the tools and has been a hard worker in the weight room.”
