Parents: David and Debbie Cobb

High School: Princeton

Height, Weight: 6-foot-4, 170 pounds

Why Wesleyan? “My visit on the campus just went great and I loved the place. David Gurganus (a former Princeton standout) plays there and had great things to say about it. I felt like family there. Nothing I saw was better than Wesleyan.”

Also Considered: Averett, Greensboro College

Major: Exercise Science

Notable: Nicholas, or Nick as he’s referred to by his classmates, had his Michael Jordan experience in middle school, getting cut twice when he tried out as a seventh and as an eighth grader. The drive to improve he learned from those experiences plus a growth spurt changed his basketball path. “I’m proud of what I’ve done here,” he said. “Going from getting cut both years in middle school ball and how I’ve grown and gotten better. Now I’m going to play college ball and it couldn’t have worked out better.” … He averaged 12.5 points a game as a senior. … Long shooting sessions helped improve his scoring ability and the sudden growth spurt in high school helped as well. … Nick has his eyes on a career in the physical therapy field.

Princeton coach Jeff Davis: “Nick has done what we’ve asked of him. He was five-foot-five in middle school, 6-1 as a freshman and then went to 6-4. He never played on the perimeter for us until his senior year because of our team makeup. … I feel he’s got a lot more room for improvement than most players going to college.”
