Copperheads trek to Denver to play: Members of the Clayton Copperheads youth rugby program made a memorable trip earlier this summer to watch the England National team prep for the Rugby World Cup and play an exhibition match before an open England team practice in Denver.
“I couldn’t imagine being down there doing the things they did,” Copperheads player Noah Bruan told englandrugby.com. “Their scrums were a whole lot different to what we do.”
Making the trip were 32 players from the 12U and 14U Copperhead teams, 20 parents and three coaches. The Copperheads’ middle school team played two matches on the trip and won both. The middle school developmental team won both of its matches as well.
The team spent 32 hours on a bus each way for the trip, departing on July 20 and returning on July 26. In order to make the trip the team raised $3,000 in just eight days through crowdfunding, local car washes and the like.
