Grinch Stink, Stank, Stunk 5K and Jingle Bell Jog
The annual Smithfield Grinch Stink, Stank, Stunk 5K and Jingle Bell Jog will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5. The races will help collect toys to benefit Harbor House and the Johnston County Department of Social Services Angel Tree Project. The registration fee is one unwrapped, new toy. There will also be prizes awarded for those who dress as Whoville characters, including dogs. Registration begins on race day at 8:30 a.m. at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center. The Grinch will make an appearance about 9:30 a.m. Registration forms are available at the SRAC or online at smithfield-nc.com. Register by Dec. 1 and pay an extra $15 to get a long-sleeve event T-shirt.
Wilson’s Mills Fire Turkey Shoot
The Wilson’s Mills Fire Department Station 1 will host the Wilson’s Mills Turkey Shoots from Nov. 19-21 and Nov. 23-25 at 145 Fire Department Road in Clayton. The shoot begins at 7 p.m. each night. Junior golf tournament at The Neuse

MGAA/West Johnston Baseball Skills Camp
The McGee’s Athletic Association/West Johnston Fall Baseball Skills Camp will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14 from 8:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m at McGee’s Crossroads Middle School for players in grades 6-12. The camp staff will include former college players Cliff Allred, Kris Richards and Carmine Pagano. The camp staff will be led by West Johnston High baseball coach Joey Worley. Couch to 5K color run at NCS
Neuse Charter School’s freshman class will host the Couch to 5K Run on Saturday, Nov. 14, on the school grounds. The event, which hopes to promote cardiovascular health among students, will include three color stations where runners will be sprayed with temporary paint. The entry fee is $5-15 for NCS students or $25 for others before Nov. 1. All entry fees after Nov. 1 are $30 per person. Turkey Trot at Flowers Plantation
The eighth annual Flowers Plantation Turkey Trot to benefit the Food Bank of Central/Eastern N.C. will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 9 a.m. The cost is $30-40. There is a Lil’ Gobbler race for ages 5-11 with a $5 entry free. Prizes will be available to the winners and pizza and T-shirts for all runners. 2015 Horse Show Series
The Johnston County Horse Show Series offers fun and exciting shows while still maintaining a down home atmosphere that encourages family participation. The shows, mostly held at the Johnston County Livestock Arena near Smithfield, are open shows that welcome riders and horses/mules from all riding levels, breeds and disciplines. JCHSS offers classes in Halter, Western, Working Western, Hunters & Jumping, Dressage Suitability, Trail, Miniature equines, Driving and English. Classes are placed through eighth place with 21 championship divisions per show. The remaining show date is Nov. 14. A negative coggins test within one year is required.
