Police on Monday charged a Realo Discount Drugs employee with embezzling 180 narcotic tablets from the store.

Cynthia Rebecca Eakes, 48, also was charged with three counts of trafficking in heroin or opiates because of the quantity of pills involved.

Eakes, who lives at 8509 S. N.C. 55, an Angier address, was arrested at her home, records show.

According to arrest warrants that covered last Wednesday through Friday and Monday, Eakes had between 4 and 14 grams of a drug one day, more than 28 grams on a second day and between 8 and 14 grams on Monday.

Trafficking charges are based on the weight of a drug involved.

The embezzling charge was filed a section of state drug law that makes it a crime for anyone “who is an employee ... and who is authorized to possess controlled substances or has access to controlled substances by virtue of his employment” to take any.

Eakes was being held on $100,000 bail pending a court appearance Tuesday.
