Four men from Brooklyn, N.Y., and one from Durham were arrested at a Target store Saturday evening with what Apex police said were eight counterfeit debit and credit cards they were using to buy merchandise.
Arrest warrants named:
Asher Rudy Smith, 25, of 4612 Hope Valley Road, Durham
Kevin Alexandre, 25, of 1351 E. 92nd St., Brooklyn, N.Y.
Never miss a local story.
Rocheteau Bernard, 26, of 265 E. 32nd St., Brooklyn
Bernardo Bernard, 26, of 1275 E. 90th St., Brooklyn
Stephen Daniel McBean, 21, of 1395 E. 53rd St., Brooklyn.
Police charged each of the men with possession of five or more counterfeit instruments, obtaining property by false pretenses and conspiring with the other four.
The scheme involved embossing four different digits in place of the correct last four in the numbers on the cards, police said in the warrants.
Alexandre and both Bernards were in custody Monday in lieu of $75,000 bail each. Records indicated Smith and McBean had posted bail.
All were due for court appearances Monday.
