Cary High School band competes
The Cary High School Marching Band won Grand Champion in the Drums Along the Blue Ridge Competion in October in Virginia. The band also won fourth place overall in the Bands of America Regional Competition in Winston-Salem in October.

Pet food drive
The Fuquay-Varina High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America will collect pet food donations for Rescue Ur Forever Friend (RUFF) through Tuesday, Nov. 25, in the school’s main office at 201 Bengal Blvd. RUFF requests donations of Purina One Pro Plan chicken and rice dry pet food for dogs or puppies, the pet food given by the dogs’ volunteer foster owners.
Cary Academy’s 12th annual Holiday Shoppe, with 100 vendors of artwork, crafts, clothing and food, will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 6:30-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at 1500 N. Cary High School students will present “IMProv” shows monthly through May. Shows start at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium at 638 Walnut St., Cary. Photo essay competition
The Cary Photographic Artists will sponsor a photo essay competition for Wake County students in ninth through 12th grade. Cash prizes range from $50 to $150, and the competition will end with an exhibit. For details, go to bit.ly/1kTh4U4. Voice of Democracy Program
