Apex police arrested a 30-year-old Raleigh man Monday night on charges that he solicited a 14-year-old girl for sex last year, then went to her home.

David John Champagne Jr. of 10110 Purchase Crossing is charged in arrest warrants with four counts of statutory rape, two counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor and one count of soliciting by computer.

Arrest warrants alleged that Champagne first made contact with the girl on Aug. 9 to set up a meeting, then “appeared at the meeting location, the victim’s residence.”

A second connection was made Sept. 7, the warrants stated.

A magistrate set Champagne’s bail at $2.25 million, and he was being held at the Wake County Detention Center for a first court appearance Tuesday.
