Holly Springs police identify man killed in robbery attempt

Holly Springs authorities Tuesday released the name of an Apex man who died Sunday night during what police were told was a robbery at a house on New Hill Road.

Officials Tuesday identified a man who died Sunday night during what police were told was a robbery at a house on New Hill Road.

Town spokesman Mark Andrews said the victim was Darin Lamont Greene, 49, of Apex, who police said was visiting the house.

A second person was wounded and treated at a hospital and released, and a third person was unhurt, police said.

The shootings happened shortly before midnight, police said, and Chief John Herring said the house appeared to have been specifically chosen.

Authorities said they were told multiple assailants had been involved, and they asked for any members of the public who had information to call them, but they did not have descriptions to release of the suspects they were seeking.
