The town of Fuquay-Varina will hear a presentation Monday, March 2, from businessman Bob Barker about a proposed arts and conference center.
The presentation, rescheduled because of recent winter storms, will be at 5:30 p.m. in Town Hall. The town board will hold a 7 p.m. meeting to discuss items from the previous canceled meeting as well as new items.
Barker, owner of the Bob Barker Company and a former Fuquay-Varina mayor, has proposed donating a warehouse to the town to bring long-anticipated plans for a performing arts center to fruition.
His building, however, would be more than twice as expensive to refurbish than the $5 million Fuquay-Varina leaders budgeted for an arts center several months ago.
The plan would require substantial private donations, and Barker would contribute $1 million.
But it also would host conferences, banquets and other potential money-making opportunities.
Town Hall is at 401 Old Honeycutt Road, Fuquay-Varina.
