The town of Apex will host an open house Tuesday evening for residents who want to learn more about the proposed widening of N.C. 55 through town.
The state Department of Transportation plans to widen the often-congested road, a north-south corridor that passes through Durham and Apex. For most of its length through the Triangle, N.C. 55 is a three-lane road. NCDOT wants to handle the road’s increasing traffic burden by widening it between U.S. 1 and Olive Chapel Road to four lanes and building a median.
Residents are encouraged to stop by Apex Town Hall between 4 and 7 p.m. Tuesday to view plans and talk with town and NCDOT officials about the project.
Officials are primarily looking for feedback about two potential cross-sections. One includes wide, multi-use paths for pedestrians and cyclists on either side of the improved roadway; the other would include regular sidewalks and wider outside lanes to provide room for cyclists.
Never miss a local story.
People who are interested in the project but can’t attend the meeting can contact project manager Zach Baloch at email@example.com or 919-707-6012.
