Apex Girl Scout earns Silver Award

Helen Julian of Apex, a member of Girl Scout Troop 510, earned the Silver Award, the second-highest achievement in Girl Scouting. For her project, titled Art with a Heart, she made a felt board storytelling set and a book for children at the Raleigh Rescue Mission Preschool. She is the daughter of Mike and Deb Julian.

Green Hope becomes second lieutenant in Army

Dana Shears, a Green Hope High School graduate and the son of James Shears of Cary, has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army after completing the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program and graduating from Appalachian State University. He will join the Army on active duty or join the National Guard or Reserve.

Cary resident graduates from ROTC course

Matthew Koch, a Cardinal Gibbons High School graduate and the son of Denise and Christopher Koch of Cary, graduated from the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Leader Development and Assessment Course in Fort Knox, Ky.
