Cary student earns Eagle Scout rank
Samuel Stephen Gay has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in Boy Scouting. For his project, Gay designed and directed the building of a trash and recycling receptacle at the St. Michael school fields in Cary.
Samuel, the son of Chuck and Cindy Gay, is a member of Troop 216 and a rising junior at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh.
Cary student photo wins honorable mention

Fiza Goyal, a student at Davis Drive Middle School in Cary, earned an honorable mention in the 2013 Walsworth National Photography Contest.
Fiza’s photo, showing student bass players locked in concentration while playing in an orchestra, was chosen by Facebook “likes” and by a panel of judges who considered photo quality and creativity. Fiza was a seventh-grader at Davis Drive last spring, when the honor was announced.
Walsworth is a yearbook production company based in Missouri.
Fuquay-Varina and Apex students serve as pages
Joshua Johnson of Fuquay-Varina and Ryan Tittus of Apex recently served as pages for a week in the N.C. House of Representatives. Pages deliver bills and other documents for lawmakers and help with clerical work and errands around the legislature.
Joshua, the son of Dan and Susan Johnson, was sponsored by Rep. Nelson Dollar and attends Garner High School. Ryan, the son of David and Debra Tittus, was sponsored by Rep. Susi Hamilton and is a student at Apex High School.
Cary resident performs with Baroque Orchestra
Alexander Travers, a Cary resident and student of violin performance at Appalachian State University, performed with the N.C. Baroque Orchestra and Mallarmé Chamber Players on Friday, Aug. 16, at the Cary Arts Center.
