Fuquay-Varina DMV earns organ donor registration award
The Fuquay-Varina Driver’s License Office was honored by nonprofit Donate Life North Carolina for having the highest organ and eye donor registration rate in the town’s district last year. The office’s sign-up rate was 61.8 percent; North Carolina’s average last year was 51.9 percent. For information about Donate Life North Carolina, go to www.donatelifenc.org.
Fuquay-Varina firefighters earn awards
The Fuquay-Varina Fire Department recognized firefighters and volunteers at the department’s 41st Annual Fireman’s Banquet on March 1. Jerry Crocker won Employee of the Year. Steve Stinard earned the T.C. O’Connell Volunteer Fireman of the Year Award. Austin Stephenson won the J.W. Mangum Recruit of the Year Award.
Tyler Stuart won the Explorer of the Year Award, which is given to ages 14-18 in the Fire Explorer program for young adults interested in fire service. Wesley and E.J. Daniel of Daniel’s Supply Company won the Marie Mauldin Silent Servant Award for volunteer work.
Local veterans receive Quilts of Valor
The Quilts of Valor Foundation gave quilts to honor two local veterans on March 14 at the N.C. State Fairgrounds in Raleigh.
Chief Warrant Officer W2 Mike Dorman of Fuquay-Varina, who served in the U.S. Coast Guard, and Lt. Col. Sean Moser of Cary, who served in the North Carolina National Guard, were honored.
