Apex Girl Scouts earn Silver Awards
Shannon Morris of Apex, a member of Girl Scout Troop 655, earned the Silver Award, the second-highest achievement in Girl Scouting. She organized an event to raise awareness for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Shannon is the daughter of Ester and Shawn Morris.
Taylor Tyson of Apex, a member of Girl Scout Troop 278, earned the Silver Award. For her project, she taught reading skills to students at Barwell Elementary School in Raleigh. Taylor used computer programs, a literacy assessment tool and one-on-one study sessions with students. She plans to organize a fundraiser for more books for the school. Taylor, a student at Apex High School, is the daughter of Alvin and Tara Tyson.
Cary students earn Eagle Scout
Tyler Brezina of Cary, a member of Boy Scout Troop 216, became an Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in Boy Scouting. For his project, he led a group of scouts and volunteers to build an arbor for a statue at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Cary. Tyler, the son of Brian and Danielle Brezina, is a student at Green Hope High School in Cary.
Colin Meagher of Cary, a member of Troop 316, earned the rank of Eagle Scout. For his project, he and a group of volunteers poured new concrete to protect a stairway and walkway at Northwoods Elementary School in Cary from flooding. They also planted more than 50 plants to stop erosion on a nearby hill, caused by students climbing the hill to avoid the flooded walkway. Colin is a student at Athens Drive High School in Raleigh.
Fuquay-Varina Girl Scouts earn Silver Awards
Shila Alexander of Fuquay-Varina, a member of Girl Scout Troop 1125, earned the Silver Award, the second-highest achievement in Girl Scouting. She made a book for Wake County Public Libraries to teach elementary school children about bullying. In her book, “Let’s Stop Bullying – Steven’s Story,” a boy learns to cope with being bullied. Shila is the daughter of Alley and Arrie Alexander.
Maya Owens of Fuquay-Varina, a member of Girl Scout Troop 1815, earned the Silver Award. She held a fundraiser for landscaping at a recovering disabled veteran’s home. Maya is the daughter of Christine and Robert Owens.
