Antonio Garcia Montero, 82, of Apex passed away peacefully at the home of his son on November 21, 2014 with his family at his side.
Antonio was born in Madrid, Spain on December 2, 1931. After receiving a business degree from the University of Madrid, he moved to the United States in 1957 with his sister. It was in Washington DC where he met the love of his life, Maria Jesus, who had also recently emigrated from Spain. After various business ventures in Washington DC, he took a position with IBM which moved him to New York and ultimately to the Cary/Apex area in 1976. Antonio retired from IBM after 26 years of service in 1994.
In addition to his parents, Antonio was predeceased by his sister, Pilar Garcia, earlier this year, and by his two brothers who succumbed during their youth in Spain.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Maria Jesus, as well as his son Gabriel and his wife, Kathy. He also leaves behind three loving grandchildren: Hannah, Logan and Arianna; all of Apex, NC, who were all absolutely loved and adored by their “Abuelo”.
Never miss a local story.
Antonio loved his family and worked hard to ensure that his son had a good education and that his wife had a loving and secure home. He and his wife enjoyed travelling and he spent as much time on the golf course as his wife and health allowed. Aside from golfing together, Antonio cherished sharing time and “libation” with his son discussing life, current events, history and sports together.
Antonio’s lighthearted, bright personality brought him many loyal friends both in Spain and the United States over the years.
A service of remembrance will be held at Apex Funeral Home at 6pm on Saturday, November 29 with visitation and refreshments immediately following.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society or Transitions HospiceCare of Wake County.
