Dr. John S. Laurie, 89, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, May 13, 2015 after a brief illness. Born on May 30, 1925 in Gloucester, Massachusetts; he was the son of the late Emerson and Priscilla Laurie and husband of the late Arunee Sullivan Laurie.
He served honorably as a Flight Navigator in the US Army Air Corp during WWII and retired from East Carolina University as a Professor of Anatomy, Physiology, and Cell Biology. He received his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University and his BS from Utah State University.
He is survived by his stepdaughter: Theresa S. Klose and husband Steve, of Apex; grandchildren: Tyson and Vanessa; a niece: Jeannine Laurie Lynch, husband Jeff and their family; and nephew: John “Jack” Laurie. He is preceded in death by: his brother, Donald Scott Laurie; his brother, Dana Merchant Laurie; and sister: Lois Wonson Laurie.
