Dalton Tim Henson – passed away on June 26, 2015 at the age of 93 after his years’ long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
He made his departure from this world at his home and in his own bed in Apex, NC. Tim was in the loving company of his wife of 69 years, Adelle Allbritton Henson, his 3 children; Juanice Teer, Al Henson, Karen Schramm, their 3 spouses, his granddaughter Ashli Horne and his long time health care giver and dear friend of the family, Olivia Estrada at his passing.
Tim was born in Keechi, TX on October 23, 1921 to Oscar Wesley Henson and his wife, Jestina Hartley Henson. He graduated from Buffalo High School and attended Sam Houston State College before being drafted into the Army in October 1942. Tim bravely and proudly served his country with the US Army’s 88th Division, The Blue Devils, the first “All Draftee” division to enter the war in the European Theater. He served briefly in North Africa and spent the remainder of the war fighting his way through Italy. He was a two time recipient of the Purple Heart, was awarded the Bronze Star for Bravery in Action and awarded 3 Bronze Battle Stars for action in the European Theater. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged in October of 1945.
After WWII, Tim came back to Leon County where he was soon married to Adelle Allbritton of the Corinth Community. He ran for office, won and served as County Clerk of Leon County while living in Centerville. He then moved his family in 1951 to Houston, TX, bought a home and settled to raise his family in Pasadena, TX while he worked at Crown Central Petroleum. Tim retired as a Maintenance Supervisor after 38 years of employment at Crown. After retiring, he moved back to the Buffalo area to the home and ranch that he, his wife and family had built over the 30 years prior and that they lovingly called Walnut Ridge. He remained at Walnut Ridge for a number of years until he could “Cowboy” no longer. He sold the ranch and soon he and his wife moved to be near their daughter, Karen in the Raleigh, NC area.
Tim is survived by his wife Adelle, daughter Juanice and her husband James Teer of Deer Park, TX; his son Al Henson and wife, Sue of Houston, TX; and Tim’s youngest daughter Karen and her husband, Bill Schramm of Apex, NC.
Tim also leaves behind his Grand Children – Sharon Liechty of Killeen, TX, Melanie Austin of Deer Park, TX, Brandon Schramm and Ashli Horne of Apex, NC. Great Grandchildren - Tim Liechty, Rebekah Liechty, Ashlie Austin, Abigail Austin, Trenton Austin, Lukas Schramm, Alex Schramm, Sydney Horne and Samantha Horne.
Tim's family would like to especially thank all the health care givers that have been so wonderful to Tim over the years. Because of you, he was able to stay by his wife's side which was always his wish. Tim's family would also like to thank Hospice for their care and guidance in his final days. Family Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 7 from 6pm to 8pm at The Buffalo Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 8 at 10am also at Buffalo Funeral Home. A short graveside service with military honors at Buffalo Cemetery will follow the Funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made in honor of Tim Henson to The H.E.A.R.T.S. Veterans Museum in Huntsville, TX.
