Regarding the Nov. 2 Cary News article “Wake GOP commissioners face criticism”: It is telling that even Wake Forest Mayor Vivian Jones, a registered Republican, said she supported Republicans in the past election for Wake County commissioners but not this year. She said she plans to vote for the four Democratic candidates “mostly because the Republican commissioners have created an ‘acrimonious’ relationship with the Wake County school board and refused to allow residents to vote on a plan that would expand transit throughout the county.”
The article also reported that Holly Springs mayor Dick Sears, another Republican (now unaffiliated), said he was going with the Democratic foursome for county commissioner due to the GOP majority’s lack of support for school funding.
It’s reassuring that some conservatives in power know government has real responsibilities and that efforts to undercut it do not extend to hurting our public schools and limiting the future of our children.
