The report about the Crooked Creek golf course in Fuquay-Varina was one-sided and needed to be checked for facts.
Other local golf courses are doing fine. Perhaps the problem at Crooked Creek is not due to “declining popularity,” but to management practices.
Developer Tony Withers said he was heartbroken about the signs that call him and fellow developers liars and greedy. He also said the club never charged a lot for memberships. Sorry, I paid $4,500 for my “lifetime” membership, and no one informed me that they planned to sell.
If that is not a lie, then it is certainly a deceptive sales technique.
Homeowners on the course paid a premium for our property – likely $50,000 or more, and our lots are assessed double to similar lots away from the golf course. This money went somewhere.
And now they want to sell to reap a second bonus at the expense of homeowners. If that’s not greedy, what is?
Homeowners are banding together to fight any development of golf course property. Rezoning will be needed before any development takes place. That may prove interesting.
Homeowners who bought very early also received memberships. Will they be compensated now that the developers acknowledge that the golf course was only a temporary lure?
More than half of the community was represented at a recent meeting of the homeowners association. Most people were strongly in favor of doing whatever is necessary to preserve our property values.
