Former F-V chief dedicated officer
As mayor pro tem for the Town of Fuquay-Varina, I want to thank you for the very positive article regarding the town’s police department and Chief Laura Fahnestock (“Popular new police chief bridging community,” April 6). Fahnestock has been a wonderful addition to our police department and our town. Working together, Fahnestock, our police and our residents are making significant strides in community policing, public outreach and crime reduction.
I do take issue with a quote attributed to me regarding former Fuquay-Varina Police Chief Larry Smith that infers he was an “old-school police chief” and insinuates that he retired from the force for less than honorable reasons. Nothing could be further from the truth. Smith is an honorable man who served Fuquay-Varina at the highest level. He retired in 2015 after 10 years of distinguished service with the town and a 38-year career dedicated to law enforcement.
Great things are taking place Fuquay-Varina. Thank you for continuing to share them with your readers.
Never miss a local story.
