Week 4 football previews
Athens Drive at Leesville Road
Athens (1-2) lost last week, but its defense proved a lot in slowing down Lee County’s offense. Leesville (1-1) was blasted 40-6 by Apex two weeks ago and is coming off a bye.
Garner at Cary
If you’re still calling this a rivalry, chances are you’re over the age of 30. Nothing wrong with remembering this series’ storied past, but it’s certainly in the past. Cary (0-3) has struggled, while Garner (2-1) has blown away teams in the last two weeks.
Fuquay-Varina at West Johnston
The Bengals (1-1) are coming off a bye and will have used that week to prepare for West Johnston’s offense. The Wildcats (2-1) are averaging 42.3 points per game.
Green Hope at Cleveland (7:30)
The last time Green Hope was 3-0 to start a season was 2005, when it started the year 6-0 and ended 13-2. Cleveland is an explosive team that’s used to playing in shootouts. The Rams (2-1) are averaging 44 points while giving up 48.3. Between that and the late start time, Falcons fans should expect to be watching the last game done on Friday night.
Holly Springs at Sanderson
Sanderson (1-2) proved how good its defense was last week by forcing four Apex turnovers en route to a win. The Spartans have given up just five offensive touchdowns this year. The Golden Hawks (1-1) are coming off a bye week following a 39-13 romp at Wakefield.
Panther Creek at Jordan
The Falcons have lost 12 straight games entering this game, which is a good sign for Panther Creek (1-1). The Catamounts are coming off a big 41-16 win against Rolesville.
Broughton at Cardinal Gibbons
Cardinal Gibbons (2-1) is fifth in the Triangle in passing yards per game (229.0). The Crusaders hope to take advantage of a Broughton (1-2) defense that just gave up 459 yards in a 63-13 loss to Garner – though all but 44 came on the ground.
Southampton (Va.) at Cary Christian
The Knights (0-2) welcome Southampton Academy (2-0) out of Virginia for a conference game. Southampton has allowed just eight points in two games.
Wake Christian at Spring Creek (7:30)
The Bulldogs (1-2) have shown improvement from a year ago and now face the Gators (1-1), a team they narrowly lost to last year.
