A fire started by a juvenile playing with a lighter displaced eight people and occupied 24 firefighters Sunday afternoon, the Durham fire department said.
The structure took place just before 3 p.m. at 310 N. Briggs Ave.
“On arrival firefighters reported smoke visible from the front door and heavy smoke and flames from the rear of a one story residential structure,’ Deputy Chief Chris Iannuzzi said in a press release. “The fire was quickly knocked down, but it caused heavy fire damage to one room and a hallway, as well as heavy smoke and heat damage throughout the rest of the home.”
Red Cross is helping the four adults and four children who lost their home to the fire. The 24 firefighters who responded to the fire included three from Durham County.
