An Old Oxford Highway crash to which Durham police said alcohol and speed contributed, critically hurt a 24-year-old driver and caused minor injuries to a passenger in his car early Wednesday, police said.
Timothy R. Stevens of 54 Engels Circle in Durham was driving a 2014 Dodge Charger just after midnight when it went off the road’s sight side, hit two utility poles, a fire hydrant and a water meter, police said.
Stevens was taken to Duke University Hospital and was in critical but stable condition, police reported.
They said a passenger in Stevens’ car, Destinee Q. Linder, was not badly hurt.
Police said their investigation was continuing, but speed and alcohol had contributed.
