A fire that climbed the back wall of an apartment building at 315 Avon Lake Drive forced 13 people out of their apartments Thursday, fire officials said.
The fire was visible in a breezeway of the three-story building when firefighters answered the 4:20 p.m. call, Deputy Chief Chris Iannuzzi said.
The fire had worked its way up the outside the building and into the attic before firefighters got it under control 20 minutes later, Iannuzzi said.
The fire made three apartments uninhabitable, Iannuzzi said, and officials called the Red Cross to help seven adults and six children find other quarters.
Investigators could not immediately determine the cause of the fire, he said.
