A police spokeswoman said a motorcycle officer was injured early Friday afternoon while escorting a funeral procession just south of downtown.
Emergency workers transported the officer to the hospital where he was treated for injuries not considered life-threatening, said police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.
The accident happened shortly after 2 p.m. at the intersection of Fayetteville Street and Homeland Avenue. Michael said the injured officer was among a cadre of motorcycle officers escorting a funeral procession along Fayetteville Street. The officers were approaching the intersection when a vehicle turned left in front of one of the motor officers, causing a collision.
Police have not yet made public the name of the injured officer or the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash. The driver was checked out by paramedics who arrived at the scene, Michael said.
