Johnston County asked water customers in the Ingrams and Meadow water districts to boil water after a water main break reduced pressure.
These districts are in the southern area of the county's water distribution system, Lu Hickey said in a news release early Wednesday morning.
Customers should boil water for consumption prior to use as a precaution, Hickey said. Water should be allowed to boil vigorously for at least one minute.
The advisory is expected to be in place for at least 24 hours.
