A 42-year-old man has been charged in the early-morning shooting death of an 18-year-old woman in Johnston County, police say.
Investigators consider the slaying accidental, according to a news release from Wilson’s Mills police.
Investigators said they think Derrick Williams, of Wilson’s Mills, and Moesha Lockamy were playing with a gun when it went off. Officers found Lockamy with a gunshot wound to the chest at about 2:41 a.m. at Williams’ address, 92 Mitchner Drive. Emergency rescue personnel and officers tried but failed to revive Lockamy.
Williams has been charged with second-degree murder.
Lockamy and Williams, who is a convicted felon with a history of drug and weapons charges, were in a dating relationship, police said.
Williams was being held Saturday at the Johnston County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
