Emergency services workers rushed a 13-year-old boy to the hospital after he was hit by a car while riding his bike, town officials said. The accident happened at about 3 p.m. Sunday on Champion Street in Clayton.
The boy, who has not been identified, was riding his bike south in the north-bound lane when a car approached driving north. The driver Marquice Gaines, 21, attempted to swerve to avoid the boy, but the boy simultaneously swerved in the same direction as he tryed to avoid getting hit.
The victim, 13, was alert and talking when emergency personnel arrived on the scene. He was taken to WakeMed’s pediatric emergency department, suffering head injuries. The injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
Gaines is charged with driving on a revoked license, but no other charges were pending Sunday.
