A motorcyclist died Thursday night after his machine crashed head-on into a pickup truck while a state trooper was chasing him after he failed to stop, the State Highway Patrol said.
Camilo Gomez Apolinar Jr., 26, of 432 Clayton Road in Angier was driving west on N.C. 210 about 9:30 p.m. when his motorcycle drifted to the left of the center line as he went into a curve, troopers said.
The impact threw Apolinar off the bike, patrol spokesman Lt. Jeff Gordon said. He was taken to WakeMed Raleigh hospital and died there, Gordon said.
A trooper had tried to stop the motorcycle when it was going east on N.C. 210 because it’s headlight was not on, according to Gordon.
Never miss a local story.
The motorcycle did not stop, drove onto Mount Pleasant Coates Road, did a U-turn and went west on N.C. 210, he said.
A couple in the pickup truck was taken to Johnston Health in Smithfield for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Gordon said.
