Student from Smithfield earns college degree
Justin Hensley of Smithfield graduated in December from Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C. He received a bachelor’s degree in management.
Honor society taps three
Three Johnston County residents have been inducted into Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest collegiate honor society. They are Matthew Young of Smithfield, a student at Berea College; Mary Burgess of Smithfield, Virginia Commonwealth University; and Danielle Griffin of Clayton, Mississippi State University.

Two earn Barton honor
Two Johnston County residents have been inducted into the Barton College chapter of Alpha Chi, a national college honor society. They are Brandi Gardner of Clayton, a nursing major, and Hunter David Hinson of Princeton, an accounting major.
Students in the top 10 percent of the junior and senior classes are eligible for induction.
Dean’s List student
Marilee Elisabeth Woodard of Selma has been named to the fall semester Dean’s List at UNC-Asheville. To qualify, a student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or better.
