Police on Monday identified the victim of a Franklin Street stabbing as 27-year-old Walter Arthur Preston.
Preston was in the 200 block of East Franklin Street when he was stabbed in the chest on Friday, shortly before midnight. He died at University of North Carolina Hospitals shortly after, police said.
Charles Anthony Rhames, 25, has been charged with first-degree murder. Police arrested him in Carrboro about 1 p.m. Saturday, and he was due to appear in court in Hillsborough on Monday.
Neither man had a permanent address, according to reports released by police.
The reports show that police interviewed four witnesses about the attack, and they said early Saturday that they had obtained an arrest warrant for Rhames.
