Despite temperatures approaching 80 degrees, you may see Cary’s snow plows out Tuesday putting down what looks like brine used to treat icy roads.
It’s a drill. Instead of brine, the trucks will be spreading water on bridges, hills and other places that tend to get icy in the winter.
The town is pretending that two to five inches of snow is falling so that crews can get familiar with their equipment and with the process of treating slick streets and roads.
The drill will continue Wednesday at the Garmon Operations Center on James Jackson Avenue, where town staff will work on such things as winter weather driving techniques, effective plowing and chainsaw safety.
Cary says it uses about 66 pieces of winter weather equipment, including 47 plows, to maintain 723 miles of streets in town.
