A tree limb fell onto power lines on Hazelwood Drive, near Fallon Park, on Tuesday morning, knocking out power to more than 1,200 Duke Energy Progress customers and damaging a pickup truck.
The incident happened about 6:45 a.m. and brought police to the area to block the street.
The limb was large enough to snap off the top of a utility pole when it brought down the power lines and other cables on the pole.
The power company showed on its outage website that 1,248 customers were without service, and firefighters said traffic lights in the area were not working.
Never miss a local story.
Crews had restored power to about half of the customers by 8:30 a.m., and the company said it hoped to have everyone back online by late morning.
