Police urged parents to talk with all their children about bus-stop safety after a car slightly injured a 13-year-old East Wake Middle School student who investigators said was in a street and distracted by a cell phone Friday morning.
The accident happened on Robertson Street about 6:30 a.m., police said.
The driver of the car stopped immediately and waited for police, they said in a Facebook report on the incident. The man will not be charged with any violations, they said.
“We are pleased that the young man suffered only bumps and bruises – this could have been worse,” police said while also asking parents to talk with their children about how to stay safe while waiting for buses in the morning.
Never miss a local story.
“The kids have to take responsibility for their own safety by practicing basic safety tactics when waiting for the bus,” police said. They urged parents to speak with older children, not just younger ones.
