Police were determining Wednesday morning whether to file charges against a motorist whose car struck and killed a 9-year-old boy on a street in a mobile-home park Tuesday evening, a town official said.
The accident happened shortly before 7:15 p.m. at Maple and Poplar streets in the Chatham Estates park, town spokeswoman Susan Moran said.
The boy was taken to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, where he died.
The boy was riding with his family when he was struck, Moran said.
Investigators are consulting the Wake County District Attorney’s Office to determine whether the driver should be charged, Moran said.
Officials are withholding the boy’s name and the driver’s identity until then, Moran said.
