The State Highway Patrol has charged a Raleigh woman with misdemeanor death by a motor vehicle a week after she lost control of her car on Interstate 540 and crossed the median into the path of an oncoming motorcycle.
Kanak Lata Singh, 28, of Neches Lane was also charged with failure to maintain lane control.
Singh was driving westbound on I-540, approaching I-40 near the Wake-Durham line at about 4:30 p.m. last Monday, when she overcorrected and lost control of her Honda car, according to a Highway Patrol report. The car went through a median guardrail and ended up facing backward in the eastbound lanes of I-540.
The motorcyclist, Philip James Sabino of Cahill Road in Raleigh, was not able to avoid the car, which was still going an estimated 50 mph when the motorcycle hit it going 60 mph.
