Fire investigators were working Friday to determine the cause of a blaze that heavily damaged the Sushi Nine restaurant on Western Boulevard a short way from the North Carolina State University campus.
The fire was reported at about 4:20 a.m., and the first unit to arrive found heavy fire burning through the roof of the one-story, wood-frame building.
About five dozen firefighters and their equipment were sent to the two-alarm fire before it was declared under control just after 6 a.m., the fire department said.
A report of the fire estimated that half of the building was damaged.
Western Boulevard’s outbound lanes near Gorman Street were closed for a time early Friday, but police allowed traffic to begin flowing again about 7:30 a.m. as fire trucks began to leave the scene.
