Johnston County schools will open on two-hour delay Monday, administrators said via the system’s website.
“Due to icy road conditions, schools will operate on a two-hour delay” Monday, a posted notice said.
Buses are to run two hours later than their scheduled times.
The snow and ice seen Sunday in Johnston County and along Interstate 95 mostly missed Wake County, according to the National Weather Service.
“There was a little sleet over in Johnston County and in the southern part of Wake county,” National Weather Service meteorologist Scott Sharp said Sunday night.
Monday afternoon could bring more precipitation, but not of the freezing variety, as temperatures are expected to rise into the 50s.
Johnston County schools staff are asked to report at the regular time, “unless safety is an issue,” the site said.
Staff who are unable to report should call a building supervisor or principal.
“Safety is a top priority for our district,” the notice concluded.
