A fire in an apartment at 25 Bashford Road on the city’s west side sent one person to a hospital Tuesday evening with burns and smoke inhalation.
Firefighters said flames were coming from the back of one of the downstairs units in the two-story, four-family building when they arrived after getting the alarm at 5:37 p.m.
Investigators blamed the fire on smoking materials that were disposed of improperly, Lt. James W. Pearce said in a report.
Firefighters had the blaze under control in less than 20 minutes, and only the unit where it happened was uninhabitable, Pearce said.
The building is on the corner of Bashford Road and Spice Ridge Lane, south of Hillsborough Street, near Interstate 40.
