Public Service North Carolina workers were digging to repair an 8-inch natural gas line that was broken Friday morning near the Holly Springs Towne Center shopping area and a residential subdivision, officials said.
Firefighters from Holly Springs and other departments were on the scene shortly before 8 a.m. to prevent any fire, but it had not been necessary to order evacuations, town spokesman Mark Andrews said.
The outdoor leak and a breezy morning helped prevent dangerous gas concentrations, firefighters said.
Andrews said firefighters reported the leak had been sealed off about 10:30 a.m.
Never miss a local story.
Construction workers apparently hit the line while working on an expansion of the shopping center, Andrews said.
Old Holly Springs Apex Road was closed from New Hill Road to the Forest Springs subdivision until the pipe was repaired.
