A fire early Friday in a mobile home on Kings Parkway in eastern Raleigh left seven people homeless and sent one of them to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, the fire department reported.
A firefighter also was taken to a hospital for observation after developing an elevated heart rate, officials said.
The fire call came in at 4:52 a.m., and the first firefighters to arrive saw flames coming from a bedroom window of the home at 640 Kings Parkway.
The fire damaged almost all of the 14-foot by 60-foot unit, even though firefighters reported that they had it under control in 15 minutes.
Investigators said the fire began with smoking materials, and they ruled it an accident.
The Red Cross was called to help the residents find shelter.
